Clarets confident ahead of Stoke

Dyche

8:15am 21st November 2014

Sean Dyche says the Clarets camp are in confident mood ahead of this weekend’s trip to Stoke City.

The newly-crowned Northwest Manager of the Year oversaw a first Premier League win against Hull City ahead of the international break.

And Dyche insists that victory has served to reinforce the ever-present belief in how his squad operate, as well as laying down a marker.

“One win isn’t like we’ve won the World Cup, one win is us laying a marker down and now we’re looking to move it forward.

“That’s all we were looking for is that first marker to say we’re in the Premier League and we’re in here for a reason.

“We always said we wanted to be competitive in our own way and in our own fashion and we’ve done that – but that’s always measured by winning games.

“This is a group that have become used to winning including the staff and the fans and there is a different mindset.

“We’re not thinking we’re going to roll into town and pick up three points every week but we feel we can be competitive and that win reinforces our beliefs.

The Clarets boss accepted his award for Manager of the Year on Tuesday evening, beating off competition from Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini and Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers.

But whilst the individual accolade was a special moment, Dyche was quick to attribute it to everyone at the football club as he continues to build a one club mentality.

“I take the award gladly but to be honest as I always say it’s on behalf of the staff, the players and the club.

“I speak a lot about a one club mentality and I believe in it and any accolade that comes my way is for everyone and I mean that sincerely.

“It is a nice thing to get of course and it recognised a different kind of journey for us. Probably one of us building beyond what people thought."
